The Utilization of Durian Seeds (Durio Zibethinus Murr) as a Base for Making Edible Film

Starch is one of the basic ingredients for making edible films (edible coatings), but it tears easily, so needs addition plasticizers. This study aims to make film from durian seed starch (Durio zibethinus Murr) with plasticizers, glycerol and sorbitol determine its characterization. The results showed that best was produced by adding 2.5% (w / v) 2% sorbitol. physical characteristics are respectively: thickness 0.1700 mm 0.1633 mm, tensile strength 0.008 Kgf mm2 0.010 mm2, percent elongation 42.76% 37.13%, elasticity 0.0202 0.0272. chemical include: water absorption test 58.22% 60.43%, solubility 40.89% 26.42%, vapor transmission rates 0.2275 g jamm2 0.3127 jamm2, pH 6.90 7.85. functional group analysis (FTIR) show process in this a mixing process. shelf life at room temperature 5 days cold 7 days. biodegradability could be completely degraded within shows an environmentally friendly packaging.
